Large Juvenile Disturbances at Eddy Street Commons

Author: Keri Kei Shibata

The Notre Dame Police Department has received several reports of disturbances and unruly behavior that occurred in the late evening and early morning hours over the past Labor Day weekend in the area of the Eddy Street Commons, located one block south of campus. It was reported that large groups of juveniles were frequenting the area until the early morning hours fighting, vandalizing vehicles, and harassing patrons and residents of the Eddy Street Commons.

The Notre Dame Police Department has been in contact with our partners at the South Bend Police Department, Kite Realty Group, and Buckingham, the managing partners of the Eddy Street Commons and The Foundry, about these incidents, and we will continue to work together for the safety of our communities. In addition to expanding already existing private security and off-duty police patrols, an increased police presence and numerous additional measures will be put into place. Kite Realty Group is also in collaboration with the businesses of the Eddy Street Commons in response to these events.

If you have any information regarding these incidents, please contact South Bend Police, and if you are a victim of a crime please report it to local authorities.

If you become aware of a disturbance or fight, leave the area as quickly as possible and seek protection. Once you have reached a place of safety, call 911. If this is not possible, hide and seek shelter in a place where you will be safe until the danger has passed.

Consider personal safety practices like not travelling alone after dark, utilizing safe transportation, or other safety resources like SafeBouND safety escorts if you’re on campus or the ND Safe App.
