The Notre Dame Police Department has received a report of an incident of aggravated battery (as defined by Indiana law) from the Title IX office that occurred in a men’s residence hall on campus in the night hours between September 29-30, 2023. It was reported that the female victim’s drink was spiked with drugs without her consent and that testing at the hospital confirmed the presence of Roofalin/Rohypnol.
In addition to this on-campus incident, the Title IX office has recently received three separate reports of suspected drink spiking at Finnies Next Door, located on South Main Street in downtown South Bend. One incident occurred in June of 2023 and two of the incidents took place in early September of 2023. In the early September incidents, the suspect was described as an older non-college aged white male with balding hair. There is no indication that the incidents at Finnies Next Door are connected to the incident on campus.
The Notre Dame Police Department has been in contact with our partners at the South Bend Police Department about the incidents at Finnies Next Door, and we will continue to work together for the safety of our communities.

Drink spiking is when an offender adds a scentless, colorless and tasteless drug in the drink of an unsuspecting victim. The effects of drink spiking vary. Symptoms could include loss of balance, visual impairment, confusion, or nausea. Drink spiking is a crime.
The Notre Dame Police Department would like to remind all community members of the following ways to safeguard yourself and others from drink spiking:
- Do not accept drinks from strangers
- If someone offers you a drink and you accept, go to the bar with them and have the drink poured and served directly to you
- If you did not see your drink poured, do not drink it
- If you are unsure about any of the ingredients, don't drink it
- Keep an eye on your friends and their drinks
- Never leave your drink unattended
- Avoid sharing drinks with others
- Try to always be in the company of a trusted friend
- Please be aware of any uncharacteristic behavior from your acquaintances, and be wary of strangers attempting to separate individuals from their friends
- Should you observe any individual who appears to be in distress, wandering alone late at night, or dressed unsuitably for the weather, be sure to contact the police immediately.
- If you believe your drink may be spiked or observe an individual spiking someone else’s drink, immediately call the police
IF YOU SEE SOMETHING SUSPICIOUS, SAY SOMETHING SPECIFIC.
